There are many schools of ikebana, the oldest of which is Ikenobo dating back to the 15th century. Over the years, Ikebana has evolved with the availability and use of modern materials to suit contemporary lifestyle. Many schools of Ikebana today have a modern approach to Ikebana whereas others are a good blend of traditional and contemporary forms.
Ikebana International is not a school but many teachers from different Ikebana schools are members of I.I. The schools that have teachers in Singapore are: Ichiyo, Ikenobo, Ohara, Ryusei-ha , Sogetsu and Sounami schools.
One way to decide what school to join is by attending our events, especially when we have a workshop or exhibition by members of the different schools. Many of the teachers attend our main functions. You can find out more information about our Singapore Chapter Events
We organise monthly workshops at Candy Floriculture. These workshops are suitable for those who are new to Ikebana and a good way to get more information about the different schools. Here are more details of our upcoming workshops.
If you are interested in taking lessons please find out more about the different schools from the websites below and then contact us to find out more about teachers of different schools in Singapore.
The website of Ikebana International HQ in Tokyo also has very valuable information about most of the schools represented in Singapore.
