Christmas Gala: The Magic of Christmas
The festive season was started with a special Christmas event on 4th December at the Island Ballroom of the Shangri La Hotel. It was a time of renewing friendships, get inspiration for floral decoration through the demonstration by Thomas Lim and his assistants as well as the exhibition by II members. The magical demonstration was followed by a delicious Christmas lunch and rendition of Christmas songs.

‘A Classy Christmas’
On November 28th, members of II enjoyed ‘A Classy Christmas’ with friends of the Sogetsu Association at the Tudor Ballroom of the Goodwood Park Hotel. Christopher Lim, ably assisted by Peggy Loh and Lala Alaoui, kept us enthralled with his artistry as he created six magical designs. A scrumptious Christmas lunch was followed by a generous Father Christmas handing out presents. The wonderful event was concluded with Christmas Carols.
Johor Bahru Chapter
Ohara at Home
Members members were invited to the beautiful home of Ohara Master Datin Ong Kid Ching. They were happy to support the workshop of our sister chapter of Johor Bahru on 19 November. Participants were treated to a delicious High Tea as well as to a well organised workshop on doing Ohara designs for the home. What a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
Christmas Make Up Workshop
On 6 November Ikebana ladies were treated to a workshop of festive Eye make-up.
Singapore Sogetsu Association Charity Dinner and Exhibition

II members participated in the important Sogetsu Charity Dinner, supporting both the exhibition as well as the fund raising dinner on 4 October at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. The dinner was preceded by the demonstration of Grand Master Mr Yoichi Hinata. How wonderful to have a great evening with friends, flowers and benefit a good cause in the process.

Newcomer Tea and Two Treasure Islands
Our Newcomer Tea was combined with the opening of an Exhibition of Sogetsu School designs combined with Photos of Sogetsu designs by award winning floral photographer Herman Lee
Held at the delightful setting of the Japanese Creative Center on 1 October, the beautiful exhibition of floral art complemented the exhibition of photographs of Sogetsu designs so well.
Mr Toshihide Ando, Deputy Chief of Mission Japan Embassy and Director of Japan Creative Centre, graciously opened the exhibition followed by welcome by our President Mrs Marvina Low. Mrs Alice Lee, wife of Herman Lee, read out Mr Lee’s message as he himself was unable to be present. Marvina introduced the new members after which everybody was able to view the beautiful exhibition and partake in a delicious afternoon tea.[nggallery id=69]
Annual General Meeting
The AGM took place on Monday 23 September at the Raffles Room of the Tanglin Club.
After the official proceedings President Marvina Low introduced the new committee.
A very informative Demonstration by Datin Ong Kid Ching on designs of the Ohara School kept everybody spellbound.
This was followed by a delicious lunch, a lucky draw and much camaraderie.
2013 – 2010
Ikenobo Ikebana Society
The Ikenobo Ikebana Society Singapore Chapter celebrated its 20th Anniversary with an exhibition and demonstrations. The exhibition took place from 30 August – 1 September at the West Atrium of the newly renovated Suntec City Convention Hall.

To help celebrate, Yuki Ikenobo, Headmaster Designate, and Special Visiting Professor, Manabu Noda, graced the events. Many II members participated in the exhibition and workshops. The event was a great success bringing Ikenobo Ikebana to the public.

Singapore Sogetsu Association
On 18 July, Ikebana International members helped the Sogetsu Association celebrate the Tanabata Festival at the Goodwood Park Hotel.
Members and guests admired the exhibition before enjoying a demonstration by Belinda Goh, Josephine Chia and Veronica Tay. This was followed by a delicious lunch. It was a happy reunion with friends chatting long after the official business was concluded.
44th BIRTHDAY PARTY CELEBRATIONS
On 26 June 2013 we celebrated our 44 birthday in style at the home of our Patron, HE Mr Suzuki, Ambassador to Japan. After welcoming speeches by HE Mr Suzuki and President Ms Marvina Low,
our member, Bernard Tay, KOMON, Sogetsu School together with assistants Datin Ong Kid Ching and Ms Viola Young, dazzled members with 5 designs
Members were then treated to a Tea Ceremony executed by the Chado

This was followed by presentations to our hosts, demonstrators and cutting of birthday cake With all the formalities over we were invited to a most scrumptious High Tea. It was a delightful afternoon celebrating with friends in such beautiful surrounding. All who attended expressed our gratitude to our gracious hosts.
Singapore Sogetsu Association Workshop
The Sogetsu Association presented a very inspirational workshop of the Art of Wire Weaving on 13 June at the Japanese Association in Adam Road.
Bernard Tay, Komon of Sogetsu School, showed various designs on how to enhance ikebana designs with this contemporary way of using decorative aluminium wire. Many of our members, including our President Marvina Low, were delighted with the results of the hands on session. As usual, a delicious tea was served and a good time was enjoyed by all.

The election meeting took place on 29 May 2013 at the Singapore Chinese swimming Club. It was followed by lunch and a demonstrations by members Anju Bhardwaj – Ichiyo, Liti Tandjung – Sogetsu, Naori Tanimoto – Ikenobo
ANNUAL EXHIBITION AT PARAGON
The exhibition took place at the Paragaon from 10-19th May 2013 with the theme ‘Friendship through Flowers’ Members and friends from JB Chapter put up a fantastic display which was very much admired by the public.
Members and guests were welcomed by President Marvina Low and the Exhibition was opened by HE Yoichi Suzuki, Ambassador to Japan
Annual birthday celebration of JB Charter President
YAM Tunku Shahariah
On 9 April members crossed the Causeway to help our sister chapter celebrate the birthday of much loved Charter
President Yam Tunku Shahariah at the Thistle Hotel in Johor Bahru
Past presidents Shirley Chea and Serena Chew, both Sogetsu School, delighted the audience with two designs each, followed by a combined design with large bamboo structure while Christopher Lim entertained the audience with his commentary.
The theme was “ English Tea Party” and members were encouraged to done a hat. Our member Peggy Loh was the lucky winner of the best dressed hat competition
As always, members from Singapore Chapter were most welcomed and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with friends
ART OF LACQUER WARE
On 6 April members were invited to the opening ceremony at the JCC of an exhibition of exquisite Japanese lacquer ware. Guests were also invited to a tea ceremony.

SPRING BLOSSOM EASTER WORKSHOP
Our Spring Workshop was held on 20 March at the INTAN, a Peranakan heritage home-museum, located in the heart of a traditional enclave of Joo Chiat.
Owner and avid collector of all things Peranakan, Alvin Yapp,very kindly opened his unique home-museum to Ikebana members for a delightful afternoon of Peranakan-inspired Ikebana by Peggy Loh and Viola Yong, Furoshiki (Japanese art of gift-wrapping with cloth) and High Tea with mouthwatering Peranakan delicacies.

The Lunar New Year Lunch and Floral Demonstration
On Wednesday, January 30 our chapter held the traditional CNY celebration at the Imperial Ballroom at the Meritus Mandarin Hotel in Orchard Road. Members staged an exhibition interpreting CNY traditions. Before sitting down to a scrumptious CNY dinner, our Honorary Guest, Mrs Takako Suzuki, wife of the Japan Ambassador, took great delight in viewing the exhibits.
We were all in for a treat with Damien Koh’s demonstration. Damien who is a master of Ikenobo Ikebana and an international renowned floral designer created six designs with CNY in mind. His beautiful creations were added to the extensive lucky draw prizes and six lucky winners were happy to take them home.
Members and guests joined in with the traditional Yu Sheng wishing everybody good health, abundance of happiness and blessings. During lunch which included many traditional CNY delicacies, committee members and friends staged a fashion show of the Spring and Summer collection as well as dresses suitable for this special Lunar New Year by LEONARD, Paris.
II CNY celebrations could not be without the arrival of the God of Fortune, aka Christopher Lim. His abundant blessings and handing out of Ang Baos created much merriment and concluded yet another very successful event.
