What is Ikebana?
In simple terms, it is the art of Japanese flower arranging. The art form dates back to the 15th century and developed into different styles from the very traditional to the most contemporary. Ikebana is practised the world over.
There are over 2000 different schools of Ikebana, the oldest one is Ikenobo. The schools may differ in their styles and philosophy but they all share the love of nature and the artistic expression using mainly plant material.
Although Ikebana International Singapore Chapter is not a school, many of our members are teachers of various schools. For more information on the schools that are represented in Singapore at present and the teachers who are qualified to teach, please click on Teachers in Singapore.
Membership
Membership to our chapter is open to any person (subject to Chapterboard approval) who shares in our objectives: the love and promotion of the art of ikebana and its allied crafts, and friendship through flowers. Whether you are new to ikebana or are already an expert, you can be sure of a warm welcome at our Chapter.
Our membership year runs from September till August and membership fee for the present year is S$130.
